Question about copper pipe sweating in my crawlspace this summer
Last July I finally got tired of dripping pipes under my house and wrapped everything in foam tubes myself, but the elbows still sweat and now I'm wondering if anyone in Amarillo has tried that spray-on insulating coating instead of fighting with tape.
That spray stuff sounds great until you realize it's basically thick paint that needs the pipe bone dry to stick. In Amarillo, that's a losing bet with our humidity swings, even in the crawlspace. Foam tubes fail at elbows because you're fighting the geometry, but the spray has the same problem, it just hides it better until it peels. I'd rather re-wrap the elbows with a few layers of that self-stick rubber tape and call it good. Same sweat, half the cuss words.
