Client feedback killed my automation pipeline, and honestly it saved my job
I built a script to auto-generate weekly status reports for a client in Phoenix, bragged about saving 8 hours a month. They replied that the reports felt robotic and missed context from our Slack chats. I reworked it to flag anomalies and add my notes manually, and now they actually read what I send. Has anyone else gotten pushback on AI output that turned out to be a feature, not a bug?
Had the exact same thing happen with a sales team in Austin. My dashboard auto pulled every KPI and shot out a weekly summary. They told me it read like a robot puked numbers on a page. So I stripped it way back to just flag the weird stuff, like when our demo rate dropped 40% on Tuesdays, and wrote a three sentence note on why I thought that was happening. Now they actually reply to the email instead of silently ignoring it. The automation became the thing that nudges me to dig in rather than the final word. That pushback made my work better, not worse.
