Remember when we used to just eyeball torque values on a Cessna 172 in Tucson?
After a stripped bolt caused a minor gear issue on a rental plane back in '08, our whole shop switched to digital torque wrenches for every single fastener, no exceptions.

That '08 gear issue sounds like a real wake-up call. Did the rental company ever push back on the cost of switching the whole shop over to digital tools?

Oh they loved it... said it was like buying a new car after the wheels fell off.

Wait they had to switch the whole shop over? That's insane, like thousands of dollars just for some gear that broke. Can't believe a rental place would ever agree to eat that cost, they usually fight over every little scratch.
