I was changing my 16x25x1 filter every single month like clockwork and still getting cold spots in the basement. My neighbor Ken told me to write the install date on the cardboard edge with a Sharpie and check it with a flashlight instead of just guessing by looks. Turns out I was tossing filters that still had life in them, and the real problem was a return vent in my hallway that my couch was blocking by about 6 inches. Moved the couch, now I check the filter every 2 months and my Enbridge bill dropped about $40 a month this winter. Anyone else find their vents blocked by furniture without even knowing?
