Used to think home warranties were a total scam honestly. Thought they were just another way to drain money from homeowners. Then I actually sat down and read one of those contracts. Man, the fine print is brutal. So many exclusions for basic stuff. Definitely changed my view on the whole thing. They cover very specific things and nothing else.
I had a plumbing issue last year and thought my warranty would cover it. Nope, they said it was "improper installation" from the previous owner, which was excluded. After that I started keeping a list of what's actually covered in my pocket, like the exact model numbers of my appliances. Honestly reading the whole contract line by line is a pain but its the only way to know if its worth it for your house.
