Vent: the old contractor who fixed my fence for free
Back in 2017 my back fence blew over in a windstorm near Lethbridge and this retired guy from down the street came over with his own tools, said 'you dont need to pay me, just pass it on someday.' He worked for 4 hours in the heat and showed me how to set the posts with gravel instead of plain dirt, made a huge difference. Has anyone else had a neighbor step in like that, or is that kind of thing actually gone for good?
That "just pass it on someday" line hit me right in the gut... I read something recently about how the whole pay it forward thing is basically dying out because people don't even know their neighbors anymore. I've seen it happen in my own area, everyone just stays inside and orders stuff online now. But your guy sounds like the real deal, showing you the gravel trick and all that. I think there's still a few of those old school folks left who just get it done, but they're getting harder to find for sure.
