Choosing between a cheap night vision scope and a good one for sky watching
Tbh I spent $80 on a no-name night vision scope off Amazon last spring to catch stuff over my backyard in Tucson. It was basically a green blob machine. Couldnt tell a satellite from a plane, let alone anything weird. Last month I bit the bullet on a used PVS-14 for $1,200 and set it up near Saguaro National Park. Night and day difference. I caught a triangle shaped thing moving slow with no lights at around 2am on a Tuesday. It just drifted south and vanished behind the mountains. The cheap one would have shown nothing. My question is has anyone else noticed how much the gear matters for spotting odd stuff, or is it all just luck anyway?
