My building manager told me my closet shelves were a fire hazard, so I tried something else
I had stacked plastic bins 4 high in my closet for 2 years until my building manager did an inspection and said the pile was blocking the sprinkler head. I swapped the bins for a $22 wire shelving unit from the hardware store and hung a shoe rack on the door. The closet holds more stuff now and I can actually see what's in there. It also saved me from a possible lease violation notice. Has anyone else had a landlord flag something during an inspection that turned out to help?
