My neighbor's Christmas light hack just rewired my whole hallway
Yesterday I was chatting with the guy across the hall about how our entryway light stays on 24/7 because the timer is stuck. He mentioned he uses a cheap smart plug, like 12 bucks on sale, to set a schedule for his string lights in winter. So I grabbed one for my hallway lamp and now the landlord's dumb switch is basically ignored. It got me thinking about all the other things I just accept because I rent, from the bathroom fan timer to the kitchen under-cabinet strip. Have any of you used smart plugs to fix lazy wiring or shared spaces without asking the property manager first?
