My stacked star trails looked terrible for a year until I read my camera manual
I spent about 11 months stacking 200 to 300 frames at a time from my backyard in Sacramento and could not figure out why my trails looked like dotted lines instead of smooth streaks. Last week I finally sat down with the manual and found out I had long exposure noise reduction turned on, which makes the camera take a second dark frame after every shot and leaves a tiny gap between each one. I turned that off, set the interval to 1 second, and my very next stack came out as one clean line with no breaks at all. Now I am going back through every session I shot since last spring and wondering how many of them are junk. Does anyone else have a setting they ignored for way too long before it bit them?
