Found out my 2019 Silverado 1500 bolts only stretch to 53 ft lbs, not the 100 I was doing for 3 years
I was doing brakes on a 2019 Silverado 1500 at my shop in Boise last Tuesday and grabbed my torque wrench to hit the caliper bracket bolts at my usual 100 ft lbs, but something felt off so I looked up the spec sheet in my online service manual. The actual spec is 53 ft lbs, and I had been over-torquing those bolts on dozens of trucks for a few years thinking it was the same as the older models. How do you all keep track of spec changes between similar year models, because I clearly need a better system than just going off memory and what worked on the last one.
Shoot, hate to break it to you but over-torquing caliper bracket bolts by almost double for 3 years is way worse than just needing a better system. Those bolts stretch and you're lucky nothing let go on the highway. Honestly the spec sheet in your manual is the system, you just gotta actually open it every time instead of trusting your memory.
