Guy brought in a 2015 Civic with 200k miles, wanted a full engine swap for $800
I was like man even a junkyard motor with that kind of mileage is gonna run you double that before labor. He got all pissed, said I was trying to rip him off, and walked out. Saw him two days later at the parts store buying JB Weld and a prayer. Some people just don't get it.

Right? That JB Weld comment cracked me up. I had a buddy try to fix a leaky transmission pan with that stuff and it just made a bigger mess.

That "bigger mess" part is spot on. I read somewhere once that JB Weld is basically just epoxy with metal dust mixed in, so it might hold on a bracket but on something like a transmission pan with heat and pressure, you're just asking for trouble. Your buddy probably learned the hard way that those patches never really seal right, they just leak somewhere else. I saw a YouTube video where a guy tested it on a pressurized radiator and it blew out in like five minutes. Honestly, if you're gonna half-ass a fix like that, might as well just plan on replacing the part eventually anyway. It's never a real solution, just a delay.
