Talking to a diesel tech made me rethink my whole torque approach
Had a chat with a guy at a shop outside Tulsa last Friday who said he never trusts the click on a torque wrench, he always backs it off and re-torques after 10 minutes. I laughed it off until he showed me a cracked bell housing from a load that settled, and now I'm doing that on every critical fastener. Anyone else do the re-torque pass or am I just paranoid now?
That cracked bell housing story is wild, but it makes total sense once you think about it. I've started doing the re-torque pass on suspension bolts and motor mounts too, especially after the first heat cycle, since stuff always settles and shifts a little. Honestly it's cheap insurance for five extra minutes of work.
