That AOG call in Kansas City forced me to learn the 737 pitot static system from scratch
I got a call at 2 AM last Tuesday for a 737 that was stuck in MCI with a pitot static failure. The MEL said we could defer it but only if we could confirm no blockage. I spent 3 hours tracing lines in the dark and realized I had no idea how the drain masts actually work on the -800. An old Delta guy stopped by and showed me how to blow out the lines with 10 PSI of nitrogen. Now I keep that trick in my back pocket for every cold weather check. Has anyone else had to learn a system the hard way on a midnight AOG?

Well I gotta ask, did that old Delta guy mention any specific gotchas with those drain masts? I've heard they can freeze up in ways that don't show on the test ports.

freeze up in ways that don't show" - yep, a buddy of mine @leehall had one ice inside and the test port read fine.
