TIL old topo maps used to mark springs that are long gone
I was flipping through a 1980s USGS quad for the Trinity Alps last week and counted 14 springs marked along a 6 mile stretch of the Swift Creek trail. On the ground, I found only 2 of them still flowing, the rest were dry gravel patches or overgrown seeps. Anyone else run into old map features that just don't exist anymore, and do you adjust your water planning because of it?
