Can we talk about how a 10x10 deck needs 55 cubic feet of gravel and that's not what the bag says

I checked the bag of paver base at the store in Boise last week and it says covers 1 square foot at 1 inch, so for my 10x10 shed pad at 4 inches I needed 55 bags, not the 25 I guessed, and I'm curious if anyone else has been shorted by the bag math.
