Had to pick between two banned memoirs for my daughter's book club

My 13 year old is in a school book club and they wanted to read two challenged memoirs, Glass Castle and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. The school librarian said we could only pick one because of parent complaints about language and family stuff. I went with The Absolutely True Diary since it handles bullying and identity more directly for her age, and honestly it was easier to talk through the tough parts with her. We read it over 3 weekends and she had so many questions about poverty and reservation life, which I wasn't ready for but it was good. Has anyone else had to choose between two banned books for a kid and worried about the fallout from other parents?
