Tried the $12 Wahl guide combs on my Oster clippers and the fade was night and day
My Oster guards kept slipping on the curve so I switched to those cheap Wahl guide combs everyone talks about on YouTube, and the blend on the nape came out way cleaner on a 0.5 to 2 fade. Three clients in a row asked what I changed, so I'm not going back. Is it just the brand fit or am I missing something about how Oster guards seat on the blade?
That line about the guards slipping on the curve is exactly what my buddy ran into. He kept blaming his blade and even bought a new one before figuring out the Oster guards just sit a little loose on the taper lever side. He'd push into the curve and the guard would walk up a notch without him feeling it. Swapped to the Wahl combs and the same fade cleaned right up. I'd say it's less about brand loyalty and more that the Wahl tabs grab the blade teeth tighter. Oster guards can work fine but they need the blade fully seated and a little extra care around the ears.
