Corporate 'fun committee' backfired when I skipped the potluck
Our 40 person branch in Phoenix has a mandatory-ish potluck every quarter, and I skipped the last one to hit a deadline for the Q3 audit. My manager pulled me aside and gave me a written warning for "not supporting team culture," even though my audit work saved the department about $12,000 in fines. Now I'm torn, should I have just eaten the cold pasta salad and played along, or is it insane that a food event matters more than actual work? Has anyone else gotten dinged for dodging the forced bonding stuff?
