Vent: My old team lead at Salesforce forced us back to the office 3 days a week, and half the crew quit within 2 months. Was he saving the team or just saving his own skin?
Back in March, our VP in San Francisco said we had to be in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays or lose our remote status. Two people on my team of 6 left for full remote jobs at smaller firms by May, and we lost our best engineer to a startup in Austin. Some folks say in-person saves the culture, but our sprint numbers dropped 20 percent after the switch, so who is actually winning here? Did anyone else deal with a forced return and see it go sideways like this?
Hold up, you lost your best engineer AND two more people out of a team of six? That's a third of your whole team gone in two months, and the sprint numbers tanking 20 percent right after just proves the point. Anyone saying in-person saves culture has never watched their top performer walk out the door for a startup across the country. The lead probably had some directive from above and just passed it down instead of fighting for the team.
