The squirrel feeder that blew my theory about city wildlife apart
For 8 months I assumed urban squirrels were just dumb rats with fluffy tails, so I ignored the feeder I built in my Akron backyard. Then last Sunday I watched one crack a walnut by dropping it from the exact same branch height three times, like it was doing math. If an animal can figure out trajectory better than my GPS, what else are we dead wrong about in our own neighborhoods?
