That $38 refill that turned into $240 before I left the counter
I picked up my usual blood pressure med last week at the CVS off Route 9 and the pharmacist said my insurance changed their tier list. The app still showed $38 when I refilled it, but at the register it rang up $240. I mean, I paid it because I didn't want to skip a dose, but now I'm wondering if I should have called around first. GoodRx showed the same drug at another pharmacy for $61, which is almost a fourth of what I just gave. Does anyone actually check prices before they pick up, or are we all just stuck paying whatever the system says? I'm thinking about switching to a mail order place but I don't know if that's any cheaper. Has anyone else gotten blindsided like this on a refill that was fine the month before?

Heard a story on the radio the other week about how pharmacy prices are basically a secret game. Nobody knows what they'll pay until they're standing there, and the app prices are pretty much made up. I mean, I've started checking GoodRx on my phone before I even drive over, because that $38 to $240 jump is way too common. Mail order can be hit or miss though, my cousin tried it and the shipping delays messed up her whole routine. Still, calling around feels awkward but saving $180 is worth looking dumb for five minutes.
