Group of 6 of us went to a tapas place downtown last Friday and the bill came to $240. Everyone wanted to split it 6 ways even though three of us only had drinks and a shared app. I said no, I'm paying for exactly what I ordered, which came to $38. The other two who did the same thing got called cheap by one guy, but honestly the math was right there on the receipt. He was annoyed but I just told him to grab the itemized line and look at my plate. Has anyone else held firm on itemized splits and had the group turn on them for it?
Splitting evenly is just how group dinners work, man. Someone always orders the lobster and someone always gets a salad, it all evens out over time. Making the waiter run 6 separate checks over a $240 tab is a lot of hassle just to save 20 bucks.
