TIL that purging with nitrogen instead of air on a 2 inch line cut my weld prep time from 40 minutes to 12
The old timer on my crew in Gary kept saying nitrogen purge was a waste of gas money, but after 3 weeks of doing it his way and redoing 6 welds, I switched and the sugaring stopped completely. Same joint, same wire, same guy welding it. Anybody else get grief for spending the extra $30 on a bottle, or is it just my crew?

The old timer thing is everywhere, not just welding. People get stuck on how they learned it and treat any change as a personal attack on their 30 years. The $30 bottle always looks expensive until you count the 28 minutes and the rework, then it's the cheapest thing on the truck.
