Gave up on PVA and switched to wheat paste for my paper repairs, and I'm not going back
Last month I was fixing a torn page in a 1930s cookbook and used PVA like I always did, and the patch dried stiff and shiny against the old paper. Out of frustration I mixed up wheat paste instead and tried it on the next tear, and the repair laid down flat and nearly disappeared into the page. PVA is great for spines and boards, but for thin old paper it grabs too hard and won't let the page flex. Wheat paste lets you lift and reset the piece for a few minutes, which saved me twice on that book. Has anyone else made the switch for paper work, or am I just late to this?
