A docent's comment on my fern ID walk changed my whole setup
Back in 2018 I gave a tour at the Redwood Grove in Oakland and a docent named Marta told me I was mislabeling the sword ferns and wood ferns. I got defensive at first, but she showed me how the indusia shape is the dead giveaway, not just the leaf color. After that I switched to carrying a 10x loupe on every walk and started double-checking every ID before I speak. Has anyone else had a peer correct them in a way that made their field work way better?
