I used to mock people who talked to their plants, now I'm one of them
For years I thought the whole talking to your houseplants thing was pure nonsense, like something my aunt did because she was lonely. Then last spring I had a peace lily in my kitchen that kept dropping leaves no matter what I did with watering or light. After two months of it looking sad, I started reading about how sound vibrations can affect plant cell growth, and there's actual research from a university in South Korea about it. So I tried something simple, I started reading my seed catalogs out loud while sitting next to that lily for about 10 minutes every evening. Within 3 weeks the new leaves were coming in stronger and the droop was gone, honestly it could be coincidence but I'm not willing to test it. The weird part is I catch myself defending the habit now when my roommate gives me a hard time about it. Has anyone else had a plant perk up after you just spent time near it, or is my peace lily just playing me for extra attention?
