My monstera went from 3 leaves to 30 after I stopped babying it

For two years I treated that thing like glass, filtered water, misting daily, rotating every week. Then I went on a 6 week trip to Portland and left it by a south window with a full saucer of tap water. Came back and it had pushed out 4 new leaves with fenestrations. Turns out my fussy care was the problem, it wanted neglect and hard water minerals. Has anyone else seen plants explode after you just backed off completely?
