That plant swap in Portland where I lost 3 rare cuttings to thrips

I went to a plant swap at a community center in Portland last month and brought some of my variegated monstera cuttings. Turned out one of the tables had thrips crawling on their plants and nobody caught it early. I didn't quarantine my new trades like an idiot and now I've spent 40 bucks on insecticidal soap and lost 3 cuttings I'd been growing for 8 months. Has anyone else had a swap go sideways like this or am I the only one who got burned?
