Vent: a single fern rhizome took me 11 months to ID and it was the easy one
Back in 2023 I dug up a volunteer fern in my Toledo yard and spent 11 months keying it out, only to find out it was a plain Christmas fern the whole time. I was so sure it was something rarer because the fronds were wider than the field guide showed, and I kept second guessing the sori. Anyone else ever spiral on a plant ID because one trait didn't match the book perfectly?
