Hostel in Barcelona charged me $18 for a towel I never touched

Went to check out and they added a fee for a missing towel, but I brought my own from home the whole week. Took photos of the room before I left and fought it at the front desk for 20 minutes until they dropped it. Anyone else get hit with fake charges at hostels and just pay to avoid the hassle?
