Laughed at my sister's color coded dot system for 2 years, then I missed 3 deadlines in one month
My sister has been doing this thing where every task gets a colored dot based on how long it takes, and I thought it was the silliest thing I'd ever seen. She showed me her setup at Thanksgiving in Denver and I smiled and nodded while she explained her 5 dot colors. Then last month I forgot my mom's birthday, missed a car registration renewal, and blew off a dentist appointment, all within 30 days. I finally texted her and asked her to walk me through it, and now I have a tiny dot code taped inside my planner cover. Does anyone else use a time estimate system, or am I the only one who had to crash and burn before trying it?
My old roommate Dave color coded everything in his garage with painter's tape and I made fun of him for it until the day I needed a specific bolt for my bike rack and he walked me right to the bin in like 10 seconds. It wasn't even about time for him, it was just that his brain stopped having to hold all that info at once. That's the part your sister figured out that you and I both had to learn the hard way. Three missed things in 30 days is a rough month though, so at least the dots are cheaper than a late fee on the car registration. Do the colors actually stick after a while, or do you have to keep checking the key taped in your planner?
