Read something the other day about how your BIRTH family can sometimes be the most DANGEROUS people in your life. The stats on abuse and manipulation from relatives are actually terrifying once you start looking into them. Makes you realize how much we buy into this whole fantasy that blood always means unconditional love and protection. People use that "but they're FAMILY" line to excuse all kinds of nasty behavior. Takes a lot of guts to walk away from that kind of setup, especially when everyone around you thinks you're being dramatic. Hope you're doing okay after whatever happened.
