Cutting off my best friend by slowly fading vs. sending one honest text, the text was way better
I spent almost 8 months fading out this friendship with my old buddy Dave, who I've known since we were 14 and who lives over in Bakersfield. Little stuff like leaving his messages on read for days, skipping his birthday thing, and giving short answers every time he called. It was slow and felt awful the whole time, and worse, he just kept texting more because he had no clue what was going on. Then two weeks ago I finally just sent one text saying I needed space and that I couldn't do the late night arguing and drama anymore, and I honestly felt relief in about 30 seconds. He replied once, said ok, and that was it. Done. If you're thinking about ghosting someone to avoid the hard part, the one honest message is so much cleaner for both of you. Has anyone else tried the slow fade and hated how long it dragged out?
