Paid $300 for a mediator to talk to my sister and it was the best money I ever burned
I spent $300 on a professional mediator to sit down with my sister after a year of not speaking. We had a blowout fight about our mom's estate stuff last summer (nothing huge, just hurt feelings and a dumb argument over a lamp). The mediator basically just made us take turns talking without interrupting, which sounds simple but we couldn't do it on our own. That meeting saved our relationship in like 2 hours, no joke. Has anyone else tried paying a neutral third party to bridge a gap with someone you're ready to cut off?

Oh man, that is so great to hear. I did something similar with my brother a few years back over a stupid argument about our dad's old truck and it was the same thing, a complete game changer for us too. Just having someone there to keep things from getting heated is worth every penny.

That old Chevy almost got my brother and me divorced too.

@rileygarcia nailed it - sometimes you just need someone to keep the volume down so you can actually hear each other. $300 is cheap compared to losing a sister over a lamp, your mileage may vary on what you pay but the structure alone is worth trying. If you're both willing to show up and follow the rules, a mediator can save months of cold shoulders and awkward holidays.
