Visited a shop in Nashville that changed how I do drawer slides

I stopped by a custom kitchen build in Nashville last month and saw them using side-mounted slides on a heavy spice drawer. It held way better than the undermount ones I usually use. Anyone else run into situations where undermount just doesn't cut it?

Yeah I get that, undermount slides can be a real pain on heavy loads sometimes.

23 inch slides are the sweet spot for heavy duty undermounts if you can find them. I switched to those after a 30 inch set started sagging on a pots and pans drawer. Make sure your cabinet box is absolutely square too, even a 1/16th out of level will make those slides bind.

Oh man, my buddy Matt went through this exact thing last year. He built this whole custom kitchen himself and put undermount slides on a massive drawer for cast iron skillets. First time he loaded it up and pulled it open, the whole thing just kinda groaned and stuck halfway out. He thought he messed up the measurements but it was the same problem - heavy load made the slides sag just enough to bind up. He ended up swapping to 22 inch slides and it glides like butter now, total night and day difference. Really makes you appreciate how picky those undermounts are about weight distribution.
