Nearly lost a finger running coax through a drop ceiling in an old Tampa building
Was pulling RG6 through a tight ceiling space at a 1920s building in Tampa last Thursday when I hit something I couldn't see. Felt a sharp jolt up my wrist and pulled back fast, and there was a bare 277 volt wire sitting right where I'd been reaching. The junction box cover was missing and nobody had flagged it on the work order. I killed the breaker at the panel, came back up, and found two more exposed spots along the same run. Took me an extra 40 minutes to reroute the run and tag everything with red tape so the next guy wouldn't stick his hand in there. Now I pop a non-contact tester in every ceiling cavity before I reach in, even on jobs that look clean. Anyone else run into live wiring hiding in old commercial buildings, and do you test every cavity or just the ones near panels?
