Paid $180 for a CLA on a camera I could've fixed myself
Sent my old Pentax Spotmatic to a shop in Denver for a CLA because the shutter was sticking at slow speeds. They had it for 6 weeks and charged me $180 plus shipping. When I got it back, the light meter was dead and they claimed it was already broken. Found out later the meter wire just needed resoldering, a 15 minute job I could've done with a cheap iron. Should've watched a couple YouTube videos first instead of trusting the fancy shop. The shutter does work fine now, but I'm still out the meter and the cash. Any of you guys had a shop screw you over like this, or do you all do your own work now?

Buddy of mine sent his Nikon F2 to a shop for a simple shutter speed issue. They came back saying the whole meter needed replacing, quoted him $250, and he paid it.
Turns out the fix was just cleaning the contact points with a pencil eraser, took him ten minutes after he looked it up online. The old meter works perfect now, so he bought a beater F2 for parts and learned to do everything himself since.
