Serious question, has anyone tried warming up the screws with a soldering iron tip before they strip?
Last month a guy brought in a Canon AE-1 from a garage sale on Elm Street with the bottom plate screws frozen solid, and I rounded two of them trying to force them out with a JIS driver. On the third one I touched a fine soldering iron tip to the screw head for about 20 seconds, and it came out like it was greased. The heat breaks up whatever old thread locker or gunk is holding them, and I have not rounded a screw since. I have been doing this 11 years and felt like an idiot for not knowing it sooner. Any of you have a temp you like to stay at so you do not cook the surrounding leatherette?
