Found out my campus speaker fee nearly hit $40K just for parking buses
Checked the public records request our student paper filed last month. The university spent $38,700 on shuttle rentals for a single Milo Yiannopoulos event back in 2017, and that doesn't include security or the stage setup. I knew free speech events drained money, but I thought the big costs were police overtime, not literal buses. Still, I wonder if anyone on the free speech committee ever totals these line items before booking someone. Has anyone else dug into their school's actual invoice breakdowns and found line items that shocked them?
Jeez, 40 grand for buses? That sounds steep, sure, but is anyone surprised? Milo was basically a circus act back then. I bet the school knew exactly what they were doing, they had to pay for the extra security and the special setup just to keep the peace. That's not a shock, that's the price of booking a known troll. You're acting like the committee didn't see the bill coming, but they probably just signed off because they had to honor the contract. The real scandal would be if they paid that much for some nobody nobody's heard of.
