That professor's comment about my protest sign changed how I talk now
Last semester I was out on the quad with a sign about the admin's investment policy and a poli sci professor walked by and said, 'You're not persuading anyone, you're just performing.' At first I was pissed but then I looked at my sign and it was basically just a slogan with no actual ask. I rewrote it to name the specific board meeting date and what we wanted them to vote on, and like 3 times more people stopped to actually talk. Has anyone else gotten feedback that felt like an attack but turned out to be super useful for getting your point across?

Used to think any criticism of my protest was just people trying to shut me up. Turns out most people tune out slogans and want actual demands, that professor did me a favor.
