Rant: My joke about a funeral home got me banned from the group chat for 3 days
So my uncle passed away in early March and at the repast my cousin's kid kept asking why Grandpa was so quiet. I made a small joke about how at least he's saving on his heating bill now, and half the room laughed while the other half just stared at me. My aunt told me it was too soon, but my own mom said he would have cracked the same one. I get that grief hits people different, but where's the line between helping people laugh through the hurt and being a jerk? Has anyone else made a joke at a funeral and had it blow up, or am I just the bad guy here?

Did your mom actually laugh at the joke, or did she just say that after the fact to make you feel better? The thing about funeral jokes is the timing matters as much as the joke itself, and a repast right after the burial is about the worst possible moment. So was your aunt upset about the joke, or upset that you made it while she was still raw?
