The church potluck pasta salad incident from last Sunday
I brought my famous cold pasta salad to the church potluck last Sunday. 3 hours in, someone's kid dropped the whole bowl on the floor and it shattered. My wife laughed so hard she snorted. Then the pastor's wife asked if I had more in the car. I said no, but everyone else found it hilarious. Is it okay to laugh when something like that gets destroyed, or was I supposed to pretend to be upset? Has anyone else had a dish they worked hard on get wrecked in a public setting?
The real joke here is that the whole church now has a shared memory of you being the calm one while everyone else lost it, which is way better than just being the pasta salad guy. Laughing at the mess is basically the church agreeing that the moment was more fun than the food, and that's a win in my book. Honestly, next time bring a backup bowl and watch people's faces when they think you missed the point completely.
