That old timer's advice about sharpening chisels finally clicked
Fellow on a job in Des Moines last fall told me to stop using the grinder and stick to stones only. I figured he was just stuck in the old days, so I kept burning edges on the wheel. Yesterday I did a dovetail cut with a #2 chisel I'd hand rubbed for 20 minutes, and the shavings came off like butter. Made me wonder how many door jambs I've hacked up over the past 5 years with dull edges. Any of you guys switch from power to hand sharpening and notice a big difference in your finish work?
