My cousin in Phoenix got her identity stolen after buying a Visa gift card at a gas station. The skimmer grabbed her debit card info when she paid for the gift card itself. So much for privacy. You have to buy those things with cash, at a big, busy store, to even have a chance. Even then, the company can freeze the card if they think your purchase looks weird.
