That doorman's question about my grocery bags still bugs me
Moved to Manhattan 18 months ago. Carrying two bags of essentials from the bodega. Doorman says 'you know that's $60 of stuff that would cost $20 in Ohio, right?' I laughed but he wasn't kidding. Anyone else get a reality check from a random stranger that stuck with you?
You ever just nod along and then spend the whole walk home replaying it in your head? I had a cab driver in Chicago tell me my rent was triple what his mortgage was, and honestly it took me a month to stop thinking about it. I finally just started writing down what I actually needed versus what the city was making me feel like I needed, and that helped me stop taking it so personal.
