Tried living with roommates at 32 to save rent, now I'm not sure who's the problem
Moved to Chicago last January and my 1-bedroom was eating $1,850 a month, so I found a 3-bedroom share for $900. Four months in and I've got one roommate who never washes dishes until Sunday and another who works nights and slams doors at 2am. I thought I was being smart about money, but my sleep is wrecked and I'm honestly more lonely than when I lived alone. Part of me thinks the savings are worth it, like $950 a month is a car payment, but the other part is ready to go back to a studio and eat rice and beans. Has anyone else traded space and peace for cheaper rent, and did you stick it out or bail? What made you finally decide?
