Found a 1984 CRT monitor in my grandpa's basement, the degauss button still works after 40 years
Last month I hauled his old Commodore 1084 out of the damp corner, fired it up with a $9 coax adapter, and the picture came in clear, so has anyone else had luck reviving monitors that sat in humidity for ages without recap work?

Twenty years of swamp air killed my Atari before the caps did, so you got lucky.

Wait, twenty years? In a swamp? That Atari must have been sitting in straight moisture the whole time. I can't believe the casing even held together long enough to corrode, let alone power up at some point. My console lasted about five years in a dry basement before the capacitors blew, and I thought that was a rough run. You basically had a fish tank with a joystick and it still outlived half the systems I own now.
