Found a 1986 answering machine tape with my dad's voice on it
I dug out my old Panasonic answering machine from storage and the microcassette still had a message my dad left in 1986, before he passed. It got me thinking, has anyone else ever recovered old voicemail or answering machine tapes that meant a lot to them?
Did you cry when you first heard it? I read a whole thread once on a nostalgia forum about people finding old tapes and most of them said they broke down the second they heard the voice again. There was this one guy who found a tape from his mom who died in the 90s and he said he played it like fifty times in one night. I guess what gets me is how those old machines ate the tape quality over time, so a lot of people wait too long and the sound is gone. Maybe it's just me but I feel like these tapes are more real than photos, cause you forget what someone's voice sounds like after a while. Hang on to that tape and get it put on your computer or your phone before the thing snaps.
