My grandpa's 1984 Sony Walkman beat my digital player in a battery test
Last month I dug out my old WM-10 from a drawer and decided to compare it to my modern MP3 player. Grandpa always said the old tech sips power, and I figured he was just nostalgic. I ran both nonstop for a week and the Walkman still had juice while my digital player died on day three. Who else has found vintage gear that just flat out outperforms the new stuff in real use?

The mechanical parts in those old Walkmans are just built different. No digital processing or backlit screens to drain power, just pure analog doing its job with almost nothing wasted. My dad still has a 70s receiver that runs circles around modern amps in terms of energy draw, and the sound is way warmer too. It makes me wonder if we traded efficiency for features we don't really need.
